Being diagnosed has been of the most amazing and heart breaking things in my life. I was so glad to know what was wrong and what to do, but having something that can't be cured and that causes you a lot of pain all the time kind of sucks. Today I am more thankful than pissed.
Getting diagnosed was the hardest part. Weekly I would go to the doctor complaining of constant pain, inability to move and keep food down. No one took me seriously. I got treated for the ulcers , but that's it. After six months of Doctors appointments things got worse. I began to throw up after every meal , spend hours hunched over in pain and finally there was blood when I threw up. I ended up in the emergency room with friends around me watching me act goofy on pain meds and finally with some relief I knew I had to make things happen. And I did, after 30lbs of weight loss, ulcers and puked up blood I was diagnosed with Celiac.
The journey did not stop there and it is still going on today. Celiac is an autoimmune disease with no cure, so their are tons of journeys like mine that are going on right now . When a person with Celiac eats gluten they have a immune mediated toxic response and basically your body attacks itself. It can vary from an annoyance to a severe case like mine. With no cure or treatment , aside from a GF diet, we need research, funding for that research and most of all awareness. So, with May being Celiac awareness month I want to raise awareness. Say hey world Celiac is real and its not going away so lets get some help.
I am hosting a Team gluten free t-shirt giveaway( see below) where all money from the purchase goes to Celiac research, a Celiac safe care package giveaway and I have also set up a donation button on my blog. All donations received will be given to the team gluten free website where all money goes to :
- Camp scholarships for Celiac children
- Celiac disease research
- Celiac disease awareness programs (both physician and general public)

It's so nice of you to give back to the cause with a personal giveaway like this. The drs thought I had a gluten allergen a few years ago and it was really hard to adjust to a new diet (especially when you're on a college campus and they don't offer much). My cousin also has it. It's tough. Just keep your head up, though :)
