Girls night out and Magic mike:spoliers

Thursday night my friends and I decided to to a GNO and see Magic Mike. What better than a bunch of girls and male dancers..right?! Well despite the premise of the movie it failed to impress. NOT enough dancing and a plot that was ambiguous and lacked continuity at best. Channing Tatum was lovely to look at , but I can promise you this I will not be seeing it again.

Despite the anticlimactic movie and the bizarre scene with the penis pump the night was great because of the company. My lovely dear friend Rachael introduced me to three of her lovely friends Amy, Steph and Meaux( mo). They we are so sweet and welcoming to me. We started our night at BJ's ( i know the irony of the name and the premise of the movie is hilarious right?!) saw our movie and ended the night at Mel's Dinner with milkshakes and hot chocolate.

It was nice to be surrounded by some great people and get out of the house!! Can't wait until our next one.

On the Top from left to right: Rachael,Me,Steph,Amy and Meaux. Aren't we a cute bunch!!

Two years, halloween & drag queens

This past weekend me and the mister went to celebrate our two year with Disney and our dear dear friends John and Sabrina.

Friday night we dressed up as a cowboy and an Indian and ran around Disneyland like little kids collecting candy and going our favorite rides. And Let me tell you we got sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much candy!

Saturday a little tired but excited for more Disney with john, Sabrina, Jeremy and Cynthia. We rode rides, chatted over yummy food, shopped and dressed me up like some sort or doll...long story.

Sunday we went to Long Beach to see an awesome drag show at Hamburger Mary's, made friends while we sobered up and did a little bit of vintage shopping.

All in all it was a much needed wonderfully fun and relaxing weekend. Now back to reality for a couple weeks before puerto rico with the fam.

I'm one of those people

So I have had a lot of pets right..but that's all they've ever been. I liked them well enough and when they passed it was sad, but my world was not shattered. I never understood people falling apart when they lost an animal or it died.

Fast forward to this sweet pup Poppy Appleseed ( we call her poppy or poppy seed)

Oh my gosh, I adopted her from HALO and when I walked up to the cages all the other dogs were yipping and howling , but poppy sat down and stuck her paw out. It was like she was reaching for me... or some cute fantastical imaginary connection between her normal movements and my crazy lady emotions that made her seem she intended only ME to notice.Either way, SOOO cute. She had me from that moment. I don't know if its because shes my dog ,just mine, but this dog is like my little baby. I would go mama grizzly on anyone that hurt her and I spoil her rotten. As you can see above she is gently rocked asleep while having her belly rubbed..what a life.

So, I came home yesterday and couldn't find her. She wasn't inside or outside i was freaking out. Ashley(my bestie) and I decided to go walk around the neighborhood . We got to the middle of the court and I starting sobbing. Not just crying tears, but the whole body jerking, breath sucking pounding head snot everywhere sobs. My tiny little world was beginning to tremble and shake with the hint of the idea that she wouldn't come home.

Luckily, poppy had wandered not very far and had been lounging on a couch with a neighbors all day. I'm so happy to have her and I guess I am officially one of those people. And I will gladly join the club with the rest of you :)

A blog of worth: Green Eyed Monster

I love crafty, artsy, this is my life blogs , but I really love reading blogs that inform, educate and show the passion of the writer, also. I am very concerned with what I eat, what I put on my body, animal welfare, and the effect I have on the environment, so I obviously like blogs that have to do with those things. My best friend, Ashley is a very talented writer and she started a new blog and it is amazing. But I'll let her tell you what it's about.

What is the name of your blog and what does is mean ?
The name of my blog is Green Eyed Monster. There is a duel meaning to the title. Firstly, I have green eyes and I can be kind of a monster about things. Secondly, I try and look at life in shades of green -- Eco-friendly, sustainable, cruelty-free ways -- and, I can be kind of a monster about that, also.

You have had several blogs before; what made you change it up and do this one?
I have had several blogs, before. Since high school I've had some sort of blog going on. They were directionless journal type things where I posted random stuff. Since they had no direction, I felt no responsibility for them and eventually lost interest and deleted them or ignored them. Last year when I got sick, however, my life changed. I made certain changes when words like cancer, tumor, and transplant started being thrown around. For a year, now, I've been on this journey of changing my life and my future and it has taught me a lot; it has given me some direction apart from my academic career. I changed things up with this blog because this one has direction and a message that I feel is important for people to hear.

What can readers expect from your blog and what are your intentions?
Readers of my blog can expect entries that focus on the environment, animal welfare, and health and ways that they can make changes to positively impact their surroundings. My intentions are to provide a sort of hub of resources. I'm not the kind of person who tracks followers and comments; those things aren't important. What is important to me is educating people on ways to protect the planet and all who live on it -- whether on two legs or four, flying or swimming. I can't make someone know something and want to help fix it; all I can do is provide information and resources and hope that they want to know.

Where do you see this blog in six months?
To be honest, I really don't know. I hope that it has continued to reach more people and provide them with an outlet to discuss the goings on of our world and it's inhabitants. I hope that it gets people thinking and wanting to know more. I hope that it continues to grow and evolve and grow up with me. Eventually, I'd also like to start a vlog to accompany my blog, but that is a long way off, I think.

Your blog covers a lot of topics and causes; if you had to pick one cause or article to get everyone educated on what would it be?
Oh, that's tough. I don't know if I heard it somewhere or read it or maybe it came to me in a dream, but I believe that the most Eco-friendly thing a person can do is be vegan. It kind of spiders out into everything. The meat industry creates so much water contamination, waste, and pollution. Being vegan kind of encompasses everything that is important to me and that I discuss in my blog: the environment, animal welfare, and health. I feel that that is a really long-term thing, though. It's the kind of thing that everyone has to sit and think about for themselves. People need to make the decision of whether or not it's right for them as a person regardless of the positive way it will impact the world.

In the short term, however, I think awareness about the dangers of plastic is extremely important. The chemicals present in plastic drinking bottles, for example, have been linked to diseases like cancer, thyroid problems, birth defects, and liver and kidney damage. The plastic is barely being recycled so it ends up in landfills and the oceans, choking our marine life and poisoning the ground and water. My goal is to get as many people as I can to drink from glass and stainless steel instead of plastic.

What are your favorite blogs of worth, right now?
I don't really follow many blogs. I read yours, obviously. I appreciate the gluten free resources you provide and your story. I also like Eat, Drink & Be Vegan; it has great recipes. Other than that, though, I don't really look at blogs. I prefer websites. I read The Huffington Post a lot. Also, I like the WSPA website, One Green Planet, and the website for the IS Foundation. These are some of the things that inspire me and help keep me informed about things that are going on.

If I were a person thinking about giving up meat and/or dairy, what would your advice for me be?
My advice to you would be to really inform yourself on why it is a positive change in your life. To research the benefits for not only you but for the planet. I would encourage you to join groups, find like minded people, and above all else remember why you have decided to make this change in the first place. It's really easy to get discouraged but I would advice you to remember what it was that made you decide to give up meat and dairy in the first place and honor that. There are a lot of people and organizations out there that want to help people like us. I provide resources all the time -- on my blog and on twitter -- and I am always on the lookout for more. The key is just to remember why you want to do this; why it's important.

Do you know that I think you're rad?
I've expected as much for a while, yes :)

body conscious

That's my granny and papa

Its important to think about your body when these months start heating up. Its summer time and everyone is thinking about putting that sun block on their skin. That is important however, that is only one step in what we need to do to beat the heat this summer. Heat has an incredible impact on the body. Heat can exposure can elevate the bodies basal temperature over long exposure and result in tissue damage, it can slow down performance, cause aggressive behavior, dehydration, fainting , weakness, vomiting and so much more. SO here are a few tips to stay body conscious.

1. Drink water! -when working or moving around in high temperatures there will be increased blood for the increased muscle work. Our body is amazing at keeping homeostasis so generally when we are moving around or working in heat this heated blood goes to our brain and sets off sweating to cool our body off . However, if you do not have enough fluid volume in your body you wont be able to.As a result, the body temperature begins to rise disproportionately as you become more dehydrated. So while we are sunning or working out keep a bottle near by . And if you check out my friends blog here you can find information about fighting the heat and using water bottles better for you and the environment.

2. Dress appropriately: wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. And think about the fabrics you are choosing to wear that day. Synthetic fibers don't breath very well and keep heat in . Choose natural fabrics like cotton , silk or linen; these breath and are more absorbent. And chose lighter color because they reflect heat better than darker colors. If you have a lazy day take that cotton shirt , soak it in water, wring it out and lean back in a beach chair while it cools you off!

3. slow down: Avoid strenuous work or movement in the peak hours. Or if you work outside try to get it done in the morning, take a lot of breaks and seek shade as much as possible.

4. Use a hint of mint. Try a few minty/menthol products to cool your skin: slather on lotion with peppermint , shower with peppermint soap, use a minty foot soak, and powders with mint. Mint refreshes the skin and leaves a refreshing cooling sensation. There are some awesome mint products out there some of my favorites are:
* Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap
* Trader Joe's tree tea tingle shampoo with mint and eucalyptus
*Burt's Bees Peppermint foot Lotion
or munch on my fav ice cream substitute
*Rice Dream mint carob chip ice cream

5. Eat right-Stay away from big heavy meals because these take longer for your body to digest and put more strain your body. Eat small meals, often. Eat a lot of foods that keep you hydrated, like fruits and veggies. Check your local farmers markets to see whats in season for the best taste. Here is a link to see what fruits are in season. Eating light meals with more nutrients and foods full of hydration is not only a good habit to develop for hot months but a healthy habit for everyday living.

And of course swim and stay in the air conditioning!!!

May and a half: goodby SFSU

So, people tell me its summer time, but looking out my dorm window I feel more like I am about to go into winter break.

Tomorrow I get to go back home and never live with three girls again. Ha, It was something else ...and experience I'll never forget that's for sure. This year has been a crazy one and I cant believe its already over. There have been new friends, crazy fights with roommates, late night sobbing phone calls to my boyfriend and boifren. But , mostly I am glad I did it. It changed me and gave me a new perspective on things. I know not everyone gets the opportunity to go away and stay at school. i am glad I had that opportunity.

Here are the awesome things about living on campus/with three girls:

-there is always a tampon when you need one
-you can nap at your break between classes
-kitchen cooked food and eat while its warm IN CLASS
- meeting new people
-learning about myself
-never ever being late to class because i literally live 2.5 minutes from my classroom
- there is always someone who is willing or forced my location to listen to you
-can't truly forget your homework
-there is a 24hr market right outside my door when I need anything!

This year was a good one but I am glad to be moving back home, into my own room , with a more familiar environment.
So goodbye Village A , Goodbye 101 B and goodbye roommates...

IM OUTTA HERE!

I appreciate...

This is my best friend Ashley. We have been friends since the summer before eighth grade, but it was a rocky start. We did not like each other at first , i think its because we were to much a like and too angsty. We met at summer camp and after realizing are cabin mates had little to nothing in common with us we came together.

I honestly love this woman. More and more every time we hang out. There have been rocky times between us, fights, laugh, tears but most importantly she is always there for me. We are always willing to forgive each other and move on to another adventure because we just get each other.

It has been a decade and I know she will always be there. We do not get mushy with each other often because generally if one is being pouty or like a baby whale the other is like a rock and being supportive. But I'm about to get mushy.

Ashley I love you so much. I am blessed to have you in my life, to have your friendship and your unwavering support. Thank you for holding my hand, laughing with my , loving my boyfriend, swimming in pools with clothes on and all the other crazy things we have done. I cant wait to see how our friendship grows.

our friendship, as charlie sheen would say, is WINNING!

Here are some pictures from through out the years!

Thank you for teaching me that I am worth loving by loving my all these years. I hope I have taught you the same!

Hair Fashion

My best friend, Ashley(isn't she lovely?!!), Has the most wonderful and abundant hair out there. She let me borrow it doesn't it look like it could be my actual hair ..maybe lol.

I have always loved my hair and my bravery to try new styles. I think its one of my favorites things about me. I have had so many hair styles and colors. When I am done with one I am scheming up another way to add some funk to my life via my hair. I know it can be fun but I suppose if you dye as much as me you have to be careful fry it! My only advice is , don't do anything you are afraid to do(ability wise)get a professional, remember its just hair so go for it and don't bleach too much because that is what damages my hair the most.

I love coloring my hair more than anything ! I think it is like a semi permanent accessory , a wonderful way to share your personality with others and a fun way to shine.

Here are my favorite current hair color styles

Ombre hair
I cant wait to have long(er) hair because I love love love this style and want to try it out. It is a graduation from light to dark or dark to light . It looks effortless and has a little funk than just one color.

Multi-toned hair

I love to play with colors, all colors! I have had almost every color in the rainbow. I figure I am young , do not have a career that is limiting me at the time and why not. I love when people use several different colors in there hair. It can be like a piece of art right a top your shoulders. I really enjoy reds and purples blended the most.

Awesome night

( this is 19 year old me thrilled to meet Josh Ritter in person at Yosemite. Geez I look different!)

Friday night me and two of my favorite boys( Dal and Jacob) drove to the Fillmore and saw Josh Ritter. If you don't know Josh Ritter you need to put it on the top of your to do list; you wont regret it. This is the fourth or fifth time I have seen him and it gets better every time. He is truly a wonderful performer and a fantastic musician!

Here are some photos form the night:

This is where Josh played, its his state flag( Go Idaho!).

Jacob and me! I am so glad he is home and could come out with us, he just moved back from a couple month stay in Mr. Ritter's state

I got a guitar pic Josh threw in the crowd. I'm adding it to my collection. I have a signed shirt, a signed set list and now this! *swoon fan girl swoon*

me and my loverbird.

This is Scott Hutchinson ( of the Frightened Rabbits) from Scotland and he opened for Josh. He it was a nice surprise because you don't always get good opening bands. Together they sang a wonderful cover of the Everly Brothers song 'Stories we could tell'. Scott seemed to be swooning over josh the entire song, but who could blame him.

I am sooooo glad I did not miss him while he was in town. Thank Josh and band for putting on a wonderful performance and not making me regret spending a night out instead of studying!
